The Theban Mapping Project appreciates the many offers it receives from Egypt enthusiasts who wish to participate in its excavations. Unfortunately, due to the strict regulations of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, the government body that oversees all archaeological excavations in Egypt, the TMP is limited in its ability to accept volunteers. All participants in excavations must have specific professional skills and pass a security check.
However, there are many archaeological projects around the globe where you can obtain valuable excavation experience as a volunteer without a background in archaeology. The Archaeological Institute of America has now made its Archaeological Fieldwork Opportunities Bulletin available online as a searchable database and we suggest you begin your search there. Happy digging!
